705910 - Dynamic Positioning Revalidation Course
Description
The course is intended for those who have already been issued a DPO certificate from The Nautical Institute (NI) but are unable to revalidate their DPO certificate due to insufficient DP sea time. The course is also intended for those who have already been issued a DPO certificate from the NI and, having sufficient sea time, are choosing the NI approved option of completing a course to revalidate their certificate. The course will update the DPO’s with latest developments within the DP industry. The course will include both theoretical lectures and practical exercises on a DP simulator which will allow the student to plan and carry out a variety of DP operations as well as observe and develop responses to various emergency and failure situations.
Learning Outcomes
This course will enable participants to:
- Acquire knowledge of the latest rules and regulations.
- Acquire knowledge of the latest developments with sensors and Position Reference Systems.
- Acquire knowledge of the latest relevant DP Incidents and why they occurred.
- Recognize the various alarm, warning, and information messages.
- Carry out operational planning, risk assessment and hazard identification tasks.
- Set up the DP system for a particular task/operation.
- Decide on courses of action in the event of systems failure.

Prerequisites
DPO Certificate issued by the Nautical Institute (NI) that will expire with 12 months of the course end date or a DPO Certificate, issued by the NI, that has been expired for no more than 3 years.
NOTE:
If the participant is completing the course for the first time, there is no minimum DP sea time requirement. For those who utilized the DP Revalidation Course for the last revalidation of their DP certificate, and having less than 150 DP sea time days since the issue date of that certificate, a minimum of 28 DP sea time days is required for DP certificate revalidation. This sea time may be accrued either before or after completion of the DP Revalidation Course and is not a prerequisite for the course. It is the responsibility of the course participant to ensure that they have gained, within the validity period of their DP certificate, the minimum DP sea time as required by the NI.
