200610 - Basic Survival Training Recurrent (BST-R)

Description

This course is designed to provide participants with recurrent training to ensure continued proficiency in the use of safety, survival, rescue equipment and techniques and to provide current information with respect to advancements in equipment technology and procedures, as required by C-NLOPB regulations. This course will consist of an online component requiring participants to refresh the theoretical aspects of content in the Basic Survival Training program, followed by one day of in-person practical training sessions. Participants will be required upon arrival to the training Centre to verify their theoretical knowledge by completing a multiple-choice quiz covering topics included in this online training.

Learning Outcomes

To provide participants with updated knowledge, skill, and proficiency regarding:

• Hazards associated with the marine environment, offshore petroleum installations, and helicopters
• Alarms and emergency response procedures on board offshore petroleum installations and helicopters
• Survival and rescue equipment and procedures on board offshore petroleum installations and helicopters

Valid Basic Survival Training (BST) certificate or equivalent;

Copy of valid CAPP medical required for this training. Medicals should be provided to administration prior to course start date but students can bring the medical along the morning of registration. (Should you have a valid medical from another jurisdiction, please contact administration to have the medical validated for training.)

NOTE: Students who have been medically cleared by an approved physician for using HUEBA in HUET will be permitted to do so.

Please bring 2 changes of clothes and 2 towels daily for practical sessions. Dress for prevailing weather conditions. **NO WARM CLOTHING WILL BE PROVIDED** Closed toe shoes/boots are mandatory.

Please be advised that the OSSC daily course schedules are subject to change and all participants should be prepared for course deliveries outside normal business hours (i.e. evenings and weekends). You will be notified if any such change is necessary. In the event of inclement weather, students should visit www.mi.mun.ca for important announcements regarding class cancellations and rescheduling. Announcements regarding class cancellations will also be on local radio stations.

If you are eligible to receive a T2202A for tax purposes, they will be available on Short Course Registration in February of the following year. Students are advised to log into your Destiny account in order to print a copy of your T2202A form.
