Description

This workshop is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and basic skills to manage the factory onboard a factory freezer trawler. The emphasis will be on the day to day management of the factory as well as pre/post trip requirements. This workshop is being offered to factory ship personnel in Nunavut as part of the ongoing partnership with NFMTC (Nunavut Fisheries and Maritime Training Consortium) and the Fisheries and Marine Institute.

Learning Outcomes

To enable course participants to develop knowledge and basic management skills regarding:

  • Regulatory requirements related to personal hygiene, food safety, product quality, product standards, construction and equipment, and documentation and record keeping.
  • Onboard processing operations on factory freezer trawlers, including the effective use of crew members, maximizing factory efficiency, troubleshooting quality and throughput issues, and completing product inspections.
