This program prepares you to challenge Transport Canada examinations for Fishing Master, Second Class. You gain knowledge and skills in the areas of:

  • Ship Construction and Stability
  • Ship Management
  • Meteorology
  • General seamanship
  • Simulated Electronic Navigation

Once certified by Transport Canada, you may serve as a Master, or Mate on board fishing vessels, under applicable regulations.

You do not require a degree or diploma to apply for admission to this program. You can take individual courses to start, and apply later.

The holder of this certificate may act as Master of a Fishing Vessel of any tonnage engaged on a near coastal or sheltered waters voyage and as Chief Mate of a fishing vessel of any tonnage engaged on an unlimited voyage.

Completion of this certificate does not award the Fishing Master, Second Class Transport Canada certification. You must write your examinations with Transport Canada to be fully certified.
